Senator Elizabeth Warren has released a DNA test that provides “strong evidence’’ she had a Native American in her family tree dating back 6 to 10 generations, an unprecedented move by one of the top possible contenders for the 2020 Democratic nomination for president.
Warren, whose claims to Native American blood have been mocked by President Trump and other Republicans, provided the test results to the Globe on Sunday in an effort to defuse questions about her ancestry that have persisted for years. She planned an elaborate rollout Monday of the results as she aimed for widespread attention.
The analysis of Warren’s DNA was done by Carlos D. Bustamante, a Stanford University professor and expert in the field who won a 2010 MacArthur fellowship, also known as a genius grant, for his work on tracking population migration via DNA analysis. [Read More]

Hillary Clinton said her husband, former President Bill Clinton, did not abuse power when he entered into a relationship with Monica Lewinsky. In an interview with ‘CBS Sunday Morning,’ she said in retrospect that her husband “absolutely” shouldn’t resign.
Clinton quickly changed the subject to President Trump and called for investigations into accusations made against him.

NBC News Issues Correction Over Trump’s Robert E. Lee Comments (Huffington Post)
NBC News has issued a correction to its coverage of President Donald Trump’s speech at a rally in Ohio on Friday, in which the president discussed Ulysses S. Grant’s victory over Confederate Gen. Robert E. Lee during the Civil War.
The correction, noted in a tweet Sunday afternoon, came hours after Trump bashed NBC News for “totally and purposely” changing the meaning of his remarks.

Saudi Arabia preparing to admit Khashoggi was killed: CNN (The Foreign Desk)
Saudi Arabia is preparing a report that would admit Saudi journalist Jamal Khashoggi was killed as the result of an interrogation that went wrong, CNN reported on Monday, citing two unnamed sources.
One source cautioned that the report was still being prepared and could change, CNN said. The other source said the report would likely conclude that the operation was carried out without clearance and that those involved will be held responsible, the cable news outlet said. [Read More]
Rutgers Delays Lisa Daftari Speech After Students Label Her an ‘Islamophobe’ (Breitbart)
Lisa Daftari, an alumna of Rutgers University and an investigative journalist of Iranian Jewish descent, has had a speech delayed at her alma mater, the school has provided her with several dates in November to choose from.
Daftari was scheduled to speak at Rutgers University on October 16. Her speech is titled “Radicalism on College Campuses” and was said to also address the issues of free speech on college campuses in America.
Ironically, Daftari’s speech was canceled after a student-led petition circulated around campus, demanding that Daftari be banned from speaking. After this story was published, Daftari was contacted by Rutgers, which offered her four different dates in November to reschedule. [Read More]

On October 11, journalist Lisa Daftari’s speech at Rutgers was cancelled due to an intellectually dishonest petition that claimed she was Islamophobic. We believe that the University’s decision to cancel her talk was cowardly and betrays the true purpose of university: to expose students to new ideas and knowledge.
We recognize that the original petition against Daftari was filled with willfully-misinterpreted falsehoods. In a Heritage Foundation speech, Daftari accurately stated that ISIS members unfortunately base their beliefs off of a literal interpretation of the Quran. She also described the process of how women in Muslim communities with ISIS soldiers are turned into “Jihadi wives.” These statements are factual and not Islamophobic. [Read More]
