Sarah Sanders hints at shutdown plan, says there are ‘other ways’ to pay for the border wall (Washington Examiner)

White House press secretary Sarah Sanders hinted Tuesday morning that President Trump is willing to avoid a government shutdown this weekend, saying there may be “other ways” to get the $5 billion border wall money that Trump is seeking.

“We have other ways that we can get to that $5 billion that we’ll work with Congress if they will make sure that we get a bill passed that provides not just the funding for the wall, but there is a piece of legislation that has been pushed around that Democrats voted 26-5 out of committee that provides roughly $26 billion in border security, including $1.6 billion for the wall,” Sanders said on Fox News Tuesday morning. Council Passes DC Sports Betting Bill To Bring Gambling To Nation’s Capital (Legal Sports Report)

On Tuesday afternoon, lawmakers in the District of Columbia passed a bill that legalizes sports betting within its boundaries.

The Sports Wagering Lottery Amendment Act of 2018 rewrites the DC books to permit both retail and online/mobile sports gambling. The DC sports betting bill is subject to a Congressional holding period, but an emergency measure also passed under a separate proposal from the Council.

The signature of Mayor Muriel Bowser is now the last remaining hurdle in the short term, and she is not expected to veto the proposal. [Read More]

Penny Marshall, “Laverne & Shirley” star, dead at 75 (CBS News)

Actress Penny Marshall, best known for playing Laverne DeFazio on “Laverne & Shirley,” has died. Her publicist confirmed that she died at her Hollywood Hills home Monday night from diabetes-related complications. She was 75.Marshall made history with her directing career as well. With “Big,” starring Tom Hanks, Marshall became the first woman in history to direct a film that grossed more than $100 million. She also grossed more than $100 million with “A League of Her Own.” Marshall also directed “Awakenings” and “The Preacher’s Wife.” [Read More]
