New Documents Suggest The Steele Dossier Was A Deliberate Setup For Trump (The Federalist)’

A trove of recently released documents sheds further light on the scope and logistics of the information operation designed to sabotage an American election. Players include the press, political operatives from both parties, and law enforcement and intelligence officials. Their instrument was the Steele dossier, first introduced to the American public two years ago.

A collection of reports compiled by former British spy Christopher Steele, the dossier is now engraved in contemporary U.S. history. First marketed as bedrock evidence that Donald Trump colluded with Russia to win the 2016 election, the dossier’s legitimacy took a hit after reports showed the Hillary Clinton campaign paid for the work. Women’s March in Mostly White City Canceled for Being Too White (National Review)

Organizers of a Women’s March that was scheduled to take place in Eureka, Calif., on January 19 wound up calling it off over concerns that there were going to be too many white people there.

“Up to this point, the participants have been overwhelmingly white, lacking representation from several perspectives in our community,” states a post on the group’s Facebook page. “Instead of pushing forward with crucial voices absent, the organizing team will take time for more outreach.” [Read More]

Terry McAuliffe takes shot a Democrats’ ‘unrealistic’ policies (Washington Examiner)

Former Virginia Gov. Terry McAuliffe, who is considering a run for president in 2020, criticized some his fellow Democrats’ “unrealistic ideological promises.”

In an op-ed published Thursday in the Washington Post, McAuliffe argued that a federal jobs guarantee and universal free college are not practical policies for his party to pursue.

A federal jobs guarantee, which would ensure every American who needs a job has one with at least a $15-per-hour wage and benefits, has gained steam among some prominent Democrats in the last year. Sens. Bernie Sanders of Vermont, Cory Booker of New Jersey, and Kirsten Gillibrand of New York have all said they support some version of a federal jobs guarantee. Incoming Rep. Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez, D-N.Y., has said the issue is a top priority. [Read More]

Trump makes ‘historic progress’ in crackdown on deportation deadbeats (The Washington Times)

Sierra Leone for years had thumbed its nose at U.S. officials, slow-walking deportations so badly that it earned its way onto Homeland Security’s “recalcitrant country” naughty list. Over the last two years of the Obama administration, Sierra Leone took back just 21 deportees.

President Trump took office vowing action, and one of his first executive orders instructed his administration to stop issuing visas to the worst-offending countries. The Sierra Leone government was targeted with sanctions in August 2017, and the change came quickly, with 44 deportees sent back that year, and 79 shipped back in fiscal 2018.

While much of Mr. Trump’s immigration agenda remains tied up in the federal courts or stalemated in Congress, he has made extraordinary progress on recalcitrant countries like Sierra Leone, cutting the number of deadbeat countries from a peak of 23 in 2015 down to just nine as of last month. O’Malley says he won’t run for president, endorses O’Rourke (Politico)

Former Maryland governor and Democratic presidential candidate Martin O’Malley shot down speculation that he would run for president again in 2020, instead saying he hoped Texas Rep. Beto O’Rourke would throw his hat in the ring.

The former longshot candidate laid out his reasons for endorsing O’Rourke in an op-ed in the Des Moines Register published Thursday, calling his failed Senate campaign “a disciplined and principled campaign that also managed to be raw, authentic, and real” and promoting O’Rourke, a former Democratic congressman from El Paso, Texas, as part of a “new generation” of leaders that can unify and heal the country.
