Judge rejects FBI plea to keep Comey memos redacted (Washington Examiner)

A federal judge ruled against the FBI’s efforts to keep some redacted documents related to former FBI Director James Comey’s memos hidden from the public.

The ruling comes after the FBI asked Judge James Boasberg to reconsider a district court ruling earlier this year that CNN and other media organizations and watchdog groups were entitled to information related both to Comey’s memos and to how those memos were used in special counsel Robert Mueller’s Trump-Russia investigation, which concluded earlier this year. Corrections officers may have falsified Epstein reports (Washington Examiner)

The prison guards for alleged child sex trafficker Jeffrey Epstein may have falsified the records showing that they were checking in on the jet-setting financier leading up to his apparent suicide at the Manhattan Correctional Center on Saturday.

Mola Lenghi of CBS News reported Tuesday evening that a law enforcement source said “corrections officers may have falsified the reports that they checked on Jeffrey Epstein as required by protocol.” He further said Epstein had been assigned a cellmate, but the fellow prisoner posted bail on Friday, leaving Epstein alone the day before he died. Lenghi said another source noted that “it appears Epstein had been dead one to two hours before he was found.” [Read More]

ICE: Undocumented immigrants in Md. rape friend’s 11-year-old sister on separate occasions (WJLA)

Two undocumented immigrants are accused of raping an 11-year-old girl on different occasions, the common denominator being a friendship with the victim’s older brother.

Montgomery County Police have arrested Mauricio Barrera-Navidad, 29, of Damascus, and Carlos Palacios-Amaya, 28, of Gaithersburg, and charged each with second-degree rape. [Read More]

Dow tanks 800 points in worst day of 2019 after bond market sends recession warning (CNBC)

Stocks plunged Wednesday in the Dow Jones Industrial Average’s worst performance of 2019 after the bond market flashed a troubling signal about the U.S. economy.

The Dow dropped 800.49 points or 3.05% to 2,5479.42, its worst percentage drop of the year and fourth-largest point drop of all time. The S&P 500 fell 85.72 points or 2.93% to 2,840.6, while Nasdaq Composite declined 3.02% to 7,773.94. The Dow gave up the entire rebound from a sell-off earlier in August and fell to a two-month low.
