WASHINGTON (AP) – The Newseum in Washington is condemning the deadly attack against a French satirical newspaper in Paris and plans an evening display in solidarity.
On Wednesday evening, the museum about journalism will project the words (hash)JeSuisCharlie on its atrium screen as a show of support for free expression. In English, the message means "I am Charlie." The hash tag (hash)JeSuisCharlie has also been used on social media.
Masked gunman stormed into the office of the weekly newspaper Charlie Hebdo on Wednesday, killing 12 people.
The Newseum says journalists around the world fight every day for the right to report the news, express ideas that others disagree with and ask questions that some don't want asked. The museum says people in every nation should have free expression without fear of reprisal.
