WASHINGTON — (WMAL) A new poll finds that support for D.C. statehood has never been higher. In fact, 67 percent of residents who participated in the poll said they’d like the nation’s capital to become a state.

The Washington Post survey also found nearly three out of four Washingtonians say they’re “very upset” that D.C. has no voting representation in Congress.

The poll also showed that over 70 percent of D.C. residents think that Congress holds too much power over what goes on in the city.

They aren’t entirely off-base: budgets and laws in the district are currently subject to congressional approval.

The District of Columbia has a population of about 650,000 people.
