Big Storm Fizzles, But What’s Left Could Still Give Us Fits

WASHINGTON — (WMAL) One thing’s clear. This is no Snowzilla.

Beyond that, meteorologists aren’t quite sure what to make of the wintry mix that started passing through the DC area overnight into Tuesday morning. Earlier Winter Storm Warnings have been downgraded niorth and west of town to Winter Weather Advisories, and Winter Weather Advisories from DC to the south have been cancelled altogether.

Despite all that, the region could still see some decent snowfall, albeit with little accumulation during the day – perhaps an inch of wet slop in the city, and up to three inches of it to the north and west.

School systems are making a wide variety of bets, opening on time in the region’s largest system, Fairfax County, while closing altogether next door in Loudoun. Montgomery County hedged its bet, calling for a two-hour delay, with a promise to reassess later this morning.
