  • Fairfax Co. school board members at odds with Liberty University leader. After comments from Liberty University’s leader about guns and Muslims, nine of the Fairfax County School Board’s 12 members want the Virginia High School League to stop having events there.
  • School Board Proposes 2017 Start Date Week Before Labor Day. The Fairfax County School Board drafts 2017-2018 calendar that begins one week prior to Labor Day. The Fairfax County School Board has directed Superintendent Karen K. Garza to draft a calendar for the 2017-18 school year that begins the school year one week earlier prior to Labor Day, Fairfax County Public Schools announced. The Fairfax County School Board will vote on the proposal later this year.
