WASHINGTON — (WMAL) Five suspects were arrested overnight for allegedly shooting at D.C. police just after midnight on Tuesday.

Police responded to gunshots in southeast Washington just after midnight. Some passengers of an SUV shot at the officers, who returned fire. The suspects barricaded themselves into the SUV, but surrendered after a 30 minute standoff. No injuries were reported.

Dustin Sternbeck, a spokesman for the Metropolitan Police, says that there is no indication that this was a planned attack on police.

“We do not believe this was a planned or coordinated attack against police,” said Sternbeck, noting the recent, deadly ambush on police in downtown Dallas. “We actually believe they were involved in a crime prior to our arrival.”

Three female and two male suspects were taken into custody following the standoff.
