WASHINGTON — (WMAL) Howard County officials have released almost 11 minutes of 911 calls from last weekend’s flash flooding in Ellicott City that left two dead.

The 911 calls, which did not identify neither the callers or the 911 operators, highlight the panic that many faced as they attempted to reach higher ground.

One caller, a woman with seven other people who are trapped, reported flood water rising at least three steps, and being trapped in the restaurant surrounded by rushing water. Her voice cracks as she says she sees cars floating down the street, and pieces of ceiling falling down.

Another flood victim called from Portalli’s, where he reported restaurant “at least one hundred” patrons sheltered on the top floor of the restaurant after being unable to evacuate due to flood water filling the first floor.

The released 911 recordings can be heard below in full.
