5am – C         World Series Game 7 scores 40 million viewers, most in 25 years.

This just in from the Baseball Health Department: baseball is not dead, and is in fact very much alive and healthy as a horse. (Or a goat … nevermind.) The ratings for Wednesday’s Game 7 of the World Series are in, and they are stunning. The breathtaking game between the Chicago Cubs and the Cleveland Indians pulled a 25.2 overnight rating, which means that 25.2 percent of all televisions in the U.S. were watching the World Series. More than 40 million people tuned in (40.015 million people to be exact), which makes it the most watched baseball game in the past 25 years. The only two games to surpass it are Games 6 and 7 of the 1991 World Series between the Atlanta Braves and the Minnesota Twins. Game 6 of that series pulled in 40.8 million viewers, and Game 7 had 50.3 million, and that last number seems insane. Though to be honest, 40 million is pretty insane.

5am – D         Georgetown-Rosslyn gondola deemed feasible in study. WASHINGTON — The idea of a Georgetown-to-Rosslyn gondola got a thumbs-up from the neighborhood’s business leaders on Thursday. The Georgetown Business Improvement District released a feasibility study on Thursday, and the results say that a system could work seamlessly with Metro, reduce about 100,000 bus trips a year across the Key Bridge and deliver “significant potential economic benefits on both sides” of the Potomac River, the business group said in a statement. “The charge for this study was not to sell the idea of a gondola; rather, it was to evaluate if a gondola is technically feasible, from a multidisciplinary approach, and to conceptually define the feasibility parameters,” Otto Condon of ZGF Architects, the firm that conducted the study, said in the statement. The best locations for gondola stations, the study finds, would be along North Lynn Street in Arlington and near the Exxon gas station on M Street in Georgetown. The gondola would take four minutes per trip; cabins with eight to 12 people would arrive every 20 to 60 seconds.

5am – E         Park Police officer accidentally shoots self fending off raccoon (Washington Times) – A U.S. Park Police officer accidentally shot himself in the foot Thursday while he was being attacked by a raccoon. The raccoon attacked the officer Thursday afternoon in Rock Creek Park while the officer was on Horse Stable Lane. “While attempting to fend off the raccoon, the officer shot himself in the foot,” said Park Police spokeswoman Sgt. Anna Rose in a statement on the incident. The officer was taken to a hospital for injuries that are not life-threatening, according to the statement provided. Sgt. Rose said another officer at the scene shot and killed the racoon. Animal control officers were expected to respond to the scene to retrieve it.

6am – A/B/C NY School Cancels Mock Election Because Kids Shouted ‘Trump! Trump! Trump!’ Rather than vote for presidential nominees Donald Trump or Hillary Clinton in a mock election, children at one elementary school will learn about democracy by voting on their favorite school lunch. A New York elementary school canceled its mock election because some of the kids were making “negative rhetoric about minorities,” and shouting “Trump! Trump! Trump!” “Teachers have said they’ve heard some kids in the cafeteria chanting ‘Trump! Trump! Trump!’ or saying they don’t want Muslims here,” Glen Rogers, principal of Jericho Elementary School on Long Island, told ABC News affiliate Wednesday. “Some people think Clinton is not good, some people think Trump is not good. So there were a lot of arguments going on and I don’t like that,” one student told ABC News.

• Charles Hernick is the Republican Congressional nominee for Virginia’s 8th District–Arlington, Falls Church, Fairfax, and Alexandria. He secured 78% of the primary vote by focusing on the district’s most pressing issues:
• Better conditions for small business–We need to reduce taxes and regulations that make it difficult for small business to hire and grow.
• National security–We need to ensure our troops have the equipment they need and that our Veterans receive the best care possible.
• Improving government efficiency–We need to invest in modern technology for Federal employees.
• Holding Metro accountable–Metro (WMATA) needs to be accountable to the taxpayers. We need a long term solution for the continued delays and shutdowns.
• Hernick opposes the proposed meals tax in Fairfax County.
• Don Beyer, 66, faces first-time Republican candidate Charles Hernick in Virginia’s 8th District. A bilingual millennial who describes himself as leaning libertarian on many social issues, Hernick, 35, has tried to appeal to young voters who want Congress to address the national debt, end political gridlock and speed the pace of change.

6am – E         Chatter is growing louder on Capitol Hill that Paul Ryan’s days as Speaker are numbered. Four House Republicans, including a senior lawmaker close to leadership, told The Hill they expect Ryan to step down after Tuesday’s elections, arguing that he faces a daunting path to the 218 votes he needs to win a full two-year term leading the House GOP. Aides to the Wisconsin Republican insist he isn’t going anywhere and that he’s completely focused right now on protecting thGOP’s majority in the lower chamber “He is running. The Speaker’s only focus until Election Day is defeating Democrats and protecting our majority, and nothing else,” Ryan spokeswoman AshLee Strong said. But even some Ryan allies are conceding that the Speaker now finds himself in an untenable position after just a year on the job. It’s not just the usual Freedom Caucus members who are pushing for change at the top; some more mainstream Republicans from safe GOP districts could pull their support over Ryan’s handling of GOP presidential nominee Donald Trump, lawmakers said. The brash New York real estate mogul is enormously popular in many of these districts, but Ryan stopped actively supporting Trump after a recording surfaced of him talking in 2005 about groping and kissing women.
