WASHINGTON — (WMAL) Virginia’s Secretary of Public Safety and Homeland Security Brian Moran said they’re taking a potential terrorist threat by al Qaida for Monday seriously, but Virginians should go about their normal lives.
“We don’t have any information as to any specific threat at this time, and we’d encourage everyone to enjoy their weekend plans and get out and vote on Tuesday,” Moran said.
He said stakeholders from law enforcement and others have been meeting for a while to make sure they have a safe, fair and accurate election on Tuesday.
“At this point we have no reason to believe they’ll be any disruption of our election,” Moran said.
Ever since the 911 attacks, Virginia has been diligent in investigating potential threats and taking necessary precautions to keep residents safe. Virginia is a popular target for terrorists because it is home to the Pentagon and various military bases, including Fort Belvoir in Fairfax County.
