LA PLATA, MD (WMAL) — A 57-year old man was trampled and bitten by a camel at the Charles County Fairgrounds, according to a spokesman with Charles County Fire and EMS.

The man was not involved with the Charles County Fair, according to J.T. Hindle – President of the Charles County Fair,  but was part of the Lewis & Clark traveling Circus, based in Greenville, South Carolina.

Hindle says the man was attacked when the camel got “excited” while it was being transferred from a trailer.

The man was quickly flown from the scene by helicopter to a nearby hospital with non-life threatening injuries.

The Circus had two shows scheduled at the Fairgrounds tonight that have been cancelled.

This is a developing story and will be updated.
