WASHINGTON (WMAL) — Sam’s Club is quietly closing down several of it’s stores around the country, tweeting this response to concerned customers asking questions:
After a thorough review of our existing portfolio, we’ve decided to close a series of clubs and better align our locations with our strategy. Closing clubs is never easy and we’re committed to working with impacted members and associates through this transition.

WMAL called several stores in the DC Metro area and found that they are all intending to stay open. The Baltimore-area Owings Mills Sam’s Club, however, has closed it’s doors.
These closures comes the same day it’s parent company, Wal-Mart, announces a wage increase for all hourly associates and an expansion of hourly maternity and parental leave.
