Maryland Pastor Slams Trump Right In Front Of Mike Pence [Patch]

Vice President Mike Pence probably ended up regretting his decision to attend a church service in the D.C. suburb of Prince George’s County, Maryland, on Sunday following his boss’s comments about “s—hole countries” like Haiti and African nations. Prince George’s County is the first metropolitan area in the country to shift from majority white to majority black population with income and education levels that increased.

As Pence and his wife, Karen, sat in the front pew of Metropolitan Baptist Church in Largo, he got an earful from the church’s pastor, Dr. Maurice Watson (video is embedded at the bottom of this article). “It is alleged that a hurtful, dehumanizing, visceral, guttural, ugly adjective that I cannot repeat in church, was allegedly used to characterize some of the nations of Africa,” Watson said. The battle to shut down Obama’s presidential center [Washington Examiner]

The Obama Foundation released plans last week for the presidential center it plans to build in Chicago’s Jackson Park, but behind the scenes, a battle is taking place to keep the former Democratic president from building on that specific lot of land, and there’s still a chance that it gets delayed when it seeks federal approval.

What initially started out as a library has morphed into a 20-acre private “center,” and some environmentalists and historians are unhappy with the Obama Foundation’s plans to swoop in and take over a national historic place.

The Obama Foundation originally said it would house a presidential library on the property and vowed to have the National Archives oversee the facility because of its placement on public land. But that’s no longer the case, and some are balking at the change in plans. [Read More]

Georgetown Employee Who Resigned After Wishing Conservative ‘A #MeToo Moment’ Gets Fired From Another Job [Daily Caller]

A Georgetown University board member resigned Monday after wishing a conservative commentator would have “a #MeToo moment” and also got fired from another job.

Jeff Bernstein resigned from his position on Georgetown’s Masters of Science in Foreign Service program board after the remark, reported independent journalist Mike Cernovich.

“Wishing you a #MeToo moment,” Bernstein said Saturday to CRTV commentator Allie Stuckey, referencing the hashtag women have used to allege sexual assault. “Maybe then you won’t be so insensitive.” [Read More]

Metro says a broken rail likely caused Red Line train carrying 63 to derail [The Washington Post]

A preliminary investigation shows a Metro train derailment on a downtown stretch of the Red Line Monday morning was likely caused by a broken rail, officials said.

The agency said a 7000-series train with 63 passengers aboard derailed as it passed over a section of defective tracks around 6:30 a.m. One passenger was evaluated for shortness of breath, but there were  no serious injuries, officials said.

Three railcars from the rear of the train came off the tracks, officials said, and the passengers were herded through the tunnel to the Metro Center station platform after an estimated 90-minute wait aboard the train outside Farragut North. [Read More]

West Virginia bill would require all schools to offer a Bible class [WJLA]

A bill has been introduced by West Virginia senators that, if passed, would require all schools to provide an elective course on Hebrew scriptures and the Old or New Testaments of the Bible.

It’s called Senate Bill 252 and was introduced by Sen. Mike Azinger, R-Wood, and Sen. Sue Cline-R-Wyoming.

They said the bill’s purpose is to teach students knowledge of biblical content, characters, poetry and narratives that are pre-requisites to understanding contemporary society and culture. [Read More]
