Trump’s top homeland security advisor Tom Bossert resigns (CNBC)

President Donald Trump‘s top homeland security advisor, Tom Bossert, is stepping down, the White House announced Tuesday.

The White House did not give a reason for Bossert’s departure, which came as a surprise while the president pushes to ramp up border security.

A White House official, speaking on condition of anonymity, told CNBC that the move “seems like a natural turnover with a new [National Security Council] director.” John Bolton, a foreign-policy hardliner, started as Trump’s national security advisor Monday, replacing H.R. McMaster. [Read More]

Trump slams FBI raid on Michael Cohen: A ‘total witch hunt’ (Washington Times)

President Trump called the investigation into personal lawyer Michael Cohen a “total witch hunt” on Tuesday after the FBI raided Mr. Cohen’s office the day before.

“Attorney–client privilege is dead!,” Mr. Trump tweeted.

Mr. Cohen is being investigation for bank and wire fraud as well as campaign finance issues, The Washington Post reported. The FBI searched his office in Manhattan as well as his home and hotel room and reviewed records of his finances. [Read More]

PUSHING BACK: DACA Recipients No Longer Will Get In-State College Tuition Rates In Arizona (Daily Wire)

On Monday, the Arizona Supreme Court ruled that the state’s colleges must not offer in-state tuition to immigrants covered under the Deferred Action for Childhood Arrivals program.

The court unanimously upheld the Arizona Court of Appeals’ ruling stating that federal and state laws ban the Maricopa Community Colleges from giving such aid to DACA recipients. Over 2,000 DACA recipients are currently attending community college or a state university where they pay in-state rates.

Still, DACA recipients might not pay the full non-resident rate because in 2015 the Arizona Board of Regents approved a lower tuition rate for non-residents who are Arizona high school graduates. That rate is 50% higher than in-state tuition. [Read More]

Former FEC Chair Calls for Government Agency to Collect Social Media (Free Beacon)

Ann Ravel, the former Democratic chair of the Federal Election Commission who controversially pushed to regulate the internet during her time leading the commission, is now suggesting a new government enforcement agency be established to help tech companies discover questionable communications from social media sites in an effort to find alleged disinformation campaigns.Ravel made the suggestions in a recent Atlanticessay titled “How the Government Could Fix Facebook,” which featured insights from a number of experts and suggestions such as imposing fines for data breaches, making tech companies liable for objectionable content, and installing ethics review boards.Under a section titled “Police Political Advertising” within the piece, the former chair told the publication that the definition of ‘election advertising’ should be expanded to help detect new disinformation campaigns that may not be found under the current definition. This could be established if the FEC were to create a “multifaceted test” to help determine if certain additional communications should fall under the category of election-related materials, Ravel said. Are There Really Two Americas? (Psychology Today)

It’s well known that people of differing political viewpoints are increasingly not living close to one another, not befriending one another, and not even speaking to one another. This political divide has sometimes been characterized as a “culture war”(link is external), a battle over the core values that govern society. In fact, some have suggested that there are now “two Americas(link is external)”—the red states and the blue states—geographically separate and morally at odds. If we are to believe the words of Patrick Henry’s 1799 speech, “United we stand, divided we fall,” it seems we’re headed for a fall. [Read More]
