WASHINGTON (WMAL) – Police have now identified the pedestrian killed in a hit and run collision in Aspen Hill early Friday morning.

Gregory Jonathan Atwood, 40, of Silver Spring, was struck and killed by a vehicle that left the scene at southbound Georgia Avenue at Hewitt Avenue, according to Montgomery County Police.

Police responded to the collision around 3:50 a.m. and found the man deceased at the scene.

Police believe that at least one other vehicle also struck Atwood after he was hit, and that one of the involved vehicles might possibly be a 2011 Chrysler 200 or a 2011 Dodge Avenger (examples of which are pictured above).

This was the second time in about six months that someone was killed at this intersection. Last December one man was killed when two pickup trucks crashed at the intersection.

“I don’t think we’re making any determination at this point that it’s intersection related,” police spokesperson Rebecca Innocenti said of Friday morning’s crash.

Anyone who has any information about the incident is asked to contact police.
