5am – D         Google workers reportedly tweaked algorithm for stories about immigration debate. Google employees wanted to push users to pro-immigration groups in the days after the Trump administration launched its travel ban last year, according to a report posted Thursday night. In a series of emails cited by The Wall Street Journal, Google workers in early 2017 sought to “leverage” their massive worldwide power and fight what they saw as “islamophobic, algorithmically biased results from search terms ‘Islam’, ‘Muslim’, ‘Iran’, etc.” and “prejudiced, algorithmically biased search results from search terms ‘Mexico’, ‘Hispanic’, ‘Latino.’ ” Some in the chain of emails occasionally cautioned against getting involved in a divisive political fight, the newspaper reported. The company said none of the algorithm-tweaking suggestions proposed in the emails were ever implemented. “These emails were just a brainstorm of ideas, none of which were ever implemented,” a Google spokeswoman said in a statement. “Google has never manipulated its search results or modified any of its products to promote a particular political ideology—not in the current campaign season, not during the 2016 election, and not in the aftermath of President Trump’s executive order on immigration. Our processes and policies would not have allowed for any manipulation of search results to promote political ideologies.”

The shooting, which authorities said was touched off when the worker got into an argument Thursday morning, sent survivors screaming and running in all directions from the Rite Aid distribution center in northeastern Maryland. •  Prince George’s officers shot while serving warrant at wrong house. (WBAL TV) — DISTRICT HEIGHTS, Md. — Two Prince George’s County police officers were shot Wednesday night while trying to serve a warrant at the wrong house, officials said. Prince George’s County Police Chief Hank Stawinski said a man was protecting his daughter from what he thought was a home invasion when he shot two police officers who mistakenly entered his apartment on Lorring Drive in District Heights. A confidential informant told police a drug dealer lived at the location, but the resident was actually a father who didn’t know officers were trying to get in his home, Stawinski said Thursday afternoon. “A law-abiding, hard-working citizen and his daughter were home at the point where we began to execute that search warrant,” Stawinski said. “Our officers had worked to corroborate the information from that confidential informant; however, we did not draw the right conclusion.” The tactical team had knocked on the door in question and then opened it after no response, at which time, a man inside the apartment fired a shotgun, hitting two   officers, police said. One of the officers was hit in the hand, and the other in the shoulder, police said. An officer fired back, but did not hit anyone, police said. The resident surrendered to police after the shooting, officials said. Stawinski said the resident would face no charges.
  • MD RITE AID SHOOTING UPDATE: A woman killed three people and wounded three others before fatally shooting herself at a Rite Aid distribution center Thursday in Harford County, Maryland. Snochia Moseley, 26, from Baltimore County, was was a disgruntled employee, and confirmed to be the shooter. No identification has been released on the victims at this time. Moseley’s friend Troi Coley told the Baltimore Sun that Mosely was transgender and had talked about receiving hormone therapy. Coley added that Moseley “wasn’t a monster, wasn’t an angry person. I just believe this was emotional distress. If she did this, it was her last straw.” The woman died at a nearby hospital after shooting herself in the head, he said. Johns Hopkins Bayview Medical Center received four patients with “priority one gunshot wounds,” said spokeswoman Kristin Mears. Ray Fang, the hospital’s trauma medical director, said two of the victims were stable and doing well, while two remain seriously injured.

7am – D         INTERVIEW — LARRY MICHAEL – Voice of The Redskins — preview this weekend’s game

  • Sun. 9/23 @ 1 pm — Green Bay Packers @ Washington Redskins
  • Green Bay Packers vs. Washington Redskins: One of the most intriguing NFC matchups of Week 3 will take place in Washington on Sunday when the Redskins (1-1) host the Green Bay Packers (1-0-1) as small home underdogs at sportsbooks. The Packers are coming off a 29-29 tie with the Minnesota Vikings last week with quarterback Aaron Rodgers suiting up and playing the entire game despite a sprained knee. Meanwhile, the Redskins fell 21-9 at home to the Indianapolis Colts following a 24-6 rout of the Arizona Cardinals on the road in Week 1. The Redskins will try to avoid losing two games in a row at home after that disappointing performance versus the Colts that saw quarterback Alex Smith do just about everything but lead them on a touchdown drive. Smith’s numbers were comparable to those of Rodgers in defeat, as he completed 33-of-46 passes for 292 yards with no interceptions.
