WASHINGTON (WMAL) – Although the DC metro area has received plenty of snow this winter, we are not out of the woods yet.

The National Weather Service has issued a Winter Storm Watch from Tuesday evening through Wednesday evening due to a storm system that could potentially bring 4-6 inches of snowfall to the DC metro area.

According to Isha Renta, a meteorologist for the National Weather Service, the snow is expected to start late Tuesday night. Later on, it will turn into sleet by Wednesday morning that will develop into freezing rain and possibly regular rain as the evening progresses. Areas west of the District are projected to receive the most snow.

The heaviest snow is expected to fall late Tuesday after 4:00 a.m. and into the morning rush hour on Wednesday.

Parts of southern Maryland are projected to get 4-6 inches of snowfall. Meanwhile, Annapolis is projected to receive 3-4 inches. In areas including Baltimore, the District and nearby counties like, Loudoun, Fairfax and Montgomery county, the current projection for snowfall is 4-6 inches.

The National Weather Service said that travel could be very difficult during the snowstorm and that hazardous conditions could impact the morning or evening commute at that time.
