Larry O’Connor’s Radar Report 04.09.19

Curious about today’s topics on The Larry O’Connor Show? Below are a few stories on the radar. Be sure to listen to The Larry O’Connor Show Monday – Friday 3pm – 6pm on WMAL.

Barr says Mueller played no role in drafting Russia report summary (Washington Examiner)

Attorney General William Barr said on Tuesday that special counsel Robert Mueller did not help him draft a four-page summary of the Russia investigation final report.

The revelation came during a House Appropriations panel hearing on the proposed Justice Department budget, which Democrats quickly refocused on the Mueller investigation.

“Attorney General Barr, in your confirmation hearings you said you believed it was very important that the results of the Special Counsel’s report be shared with the public. We agree on that,” said Rep. Jose Serrano, D-N.Y., the chairman of the subcommittee holding the hearing. “With regard to your March 24 and March 29 letters to the Judiciary Committee, did anyone on Special Counsel Mueller or anyone on his team have a role in drafting them or reviewing them in advance? Did you use any of the summary documents prepared by the special counsel in drafting these documents?” [Read More]

Ukrainian to US prosecutors: Why don’t you want our evidence on Democrats? (The Hill)

Ukrainian law enforcement officials believe they have evidence of wrongdoing by American Democrats and their allies in Kiev, ranging from 2016 election interference to obstructing criminal probes. But, they say, they’ve been thwarted in trying to get the Trump Justice Department to act.

Kostiantyn Kulyk, deputy head of the Prosecutor General’s International Legal Cooperation Department, told me he and other senior law enforcement officials tried unsuccessfully since last year to get visas from the U.S. Embassy in Kiev to deliver their evidence to Washington. [Read More]

Redemption: Virginia knocks off Texas Tech in thrilling OT win for first national title (WJLA)

It’s hard to put into words exactly what this experience was like in Charlottesville. It was euphoric, it was emotional, and just pure joy on the streets at the University of Virginia. [Read More]

Dear Pope Francis: A Border Wall Is The Most Humanitarian Policy (The Federalist)

Pope Francis has intruded into American politics again, riffing critically on border walls and capitalism. Once again, serious Catholics, including me, are dismayed by the holy father’s ignorance on the issue.

Francis’ remarks— especially his comment that “those who build walls will become prisoners of the walls they put up”—reveals an incomplete understanding of the crisis. Were he to acknowledge the entirety of the current crisis at the border, including the egregious actions of human smugglers and human traffickers, his prodding might find better currency among American policymakers. ‘Kick Kavanaugh off campus’: Students decry George Mason’s decision to hire Supreme Court justice (The Washington Post)

Supreme Court Justice Brett M. Kavanaugh will beat the Washington heat this summer and head for Runnymede, England, a bucolic borough 20 miles from London along the River Thames.

At the site where the Magna Carta was sealed 804 years ago, laying the groundwork for constitutional democracy, the judge will teach a course on the origins of the U.S. Constitution to students at George Mason University’s Antonin Scalia Law School — 3,600 miles from the Arlington campus.
