5am – A/B/C/D/E   DEBATE NIGHT IN DETROIT HIGHLIGHTS – DAY 1

  • Democratic Party divide on display in Detroit (Fox News) — It was a battle for the soul of the Democratic Party on stage in the Motor City. Sens. Bernie Sanders and Elizabeth Warren — the presidential primary field’s liberal standard-bearers — were pulled into what was essentially a two-and-a-half-hour fight with their more moderate rivals Tuesday night at the second round of Democratic nomination debates. The result was the party’s divide on full display, with the center-left (and lower-polling) contenders fiercely arguing that policies like “Medicare-for-all” and the Green New Deal will “FedEx the election” to President Trump, and the higher-profile candidates on the left flank just as fiercely arguing that their policies are the kind of bold solutions America needs. The exchange of the night may have belonged to Sanders and U.S. Rep. Tim Ryan of Ohio. At one point Sanders fired back at Ryan for claiming the U.S. senator from Vermont didn’t really know the so-called “Medicare-for-all” plan would provide coverage better than the current plans Americans would lose if the country moved to a single-payer system. “I do know. And I wrote the damn bill,” Sanders snapped.
  • MARIANNE’S DARK, PSYCHIC FORCE: Marianne Williamson gets big applause when she talks about the “dark, psychic force” at play in America
  • SANDERS AND WARREN DEFENDED MEDICARE FOR ALL LAST NIGHT:
    • JAKE TAPPER asks BERNIE about Medicare for All.  RYAN tries to jump in saying he doesn’t know about it and BERNIE pounces back: I wrote the damn bill!
    • Rep. Tim Ryan: “You don’t know that, Bernie.” Sen. Bernie Sanders: “I do know that, I wrote the damn bill.”
    • Rep. John Delaney: “We have a choice. We can go down the road that Sen. Sanders and Sen. Warren want to take us with bad policies like Medicare for all, free everything, & impossible promises that will turn off independent voters and get Trump reelected.”
    • BERNIE tells JOHN DELANEY he’s WRONG! on Medicare for All
    • Warren on Medicare for All: “Let’s be clear about this, we are the Democrats. We are not about trying to take away healthcare from anyone. That’s what the Republicans are trying to do”
    • Elizabeth Warren can’t answer with a yes or no if her “Medicare for All” plan will raise taxes on middle class Americans.
    • CNN, MSNBC Battle Warren on Cost of Medicare-for-All. In the wee hours of Wednesday morning following the first night CNN’s Democratic presidential primary debates, both the hosting network and MSNBC offered serious push back against far-left candidate Senator Elizabeth Warren (MA) over the cost of her version of Medicare-for-all.
    • CNN’s Van Jones, David Axelrod and MSNBC’s Chris Matthews surprisingly press Elizabeth Warren on her Medicare-for-All plan
  • DELANEY vs WARREN: Warren Zings Delaney: Why Run For President Just To ‘Talk About What We Really Can’t Do And Shouldn’t Fight For.’ Massachusetts Senator and Democratic presidential candidate Elizabeth Warren got off a hell of a zinger when former Rep. John Delaney attacked her plans as unrealistic, shooting back “I don’t understand why anybody goes to all the trouble of running for president of the United States just to talk about what we really can’t do and shouldn’t fight for.” At Tuesday night’s CNN Democratic Presidential Debate, Warren finished a response by saying “Democrats win when we figure out what is right, and we get out there and fight for it. I am not afraid, and for Democrats to win, you can’t be afraid either.” Asked to respond, Delaney said “So I think Democrats win when we run on real solutions, not impossible promises. When we run on things that are workable, not fairytale economics.” When Delaney was finished, Warren shot back “You know, I don’t understand why anybody goes to all the trouble of running for president of the United States just to talk about what we really can’t do and shouldn’t fight for.”
  • TIM RYAN SUMS UP THE LEFT: Tim Ryan sums up the left-wing lurch of Tuesday’s debate perfectly. Rep. Tim Ryan (D-OH) said at CNN’s Democratic presidential primary debate on Tuesday that the ideas being presented by candidates is not a winning agenda. “Now, in this discussion already tonight, we’ve talked about taking private health insurance away from union members in the industrial Midwest, we’ve talked about decriminalizing the border, and we’ve talked about giving free health care to undocumented workers when so many Americans are struggling to pay for their health care,” Ryan said. “I quite frankly don’t think that that is an agenda that we can move forward on and win.”
  • HEALTH CARE FOR ILLEGALS: Sen. Bernie Sanders said he wants to provide free health care for 11 million illegal immigrants, which he has admitted would be paid for by raising taxes on middle-class Americas.
  • DECRIMINALIZE ILLEGAL IMMIGRATION: “Yes:” Warren doubles down on decriminalizing illegal border crossings
  • DON LEMON’S TRUMP IS BIGOT QUESTION: DON LEMON asked Amy Klobuchar tonight at the Dem Debate: “What do you say to those Trump voters who prioritize the economy over the president’s bigotry?
  • MAYOR PETE MAKES MINIMUM WAGE A CHRISTIAN/RELIGIOUS ISSUE: Buttigieg: “So called conservative Christian senators right now in the Senate are blocking a bill to raise the minimum wage when scripture says that whoever oppresses the poor taunts their maker.”
  • MAYOR PETE ATTACKS GOP: Buttigieg Directly Addresses GOP Congress Members at Debate: You Will Be Remembered for Putting Party Over Country. “If you are watching at home and you are a Republican member of Congress, consider the fact that when the sun sets on your career, and they are writing your story, of all the good and bad things you did in your life,” said Buttigieg, “the thing you will be remembered for is whether in this moment with this president you found the courage to stand up to him or continue to put party over country.” The crowd broke out in applause. When asked if age should be a factor in choosing a candidate, Buttigieg said it doesn’t matter how old a candidate is so long as their vision isn’t “back to normal.” “It’s the only reason we got this president. That normal didn’t work,” said Buttigieg. He said that it was their duty to not only take on the president but also his enablers.
  • WARREN LISTS OFF TYPES OF RACISM YOU NEVER KNEW EXISTED: Warren: We need to call out white supremacy for what it is: domestic terrorism. We live in a country where the president is advancing environmental racism, economic racism, criminal justice racism, health care racism. The way we do better is to fight back & show something better.

6am – E         Senate Tackles 19 Judicial Nominations With Clock Running. (Bloomberg) — The Senate began working through a list of 19 Trump judicial selections Monday evening by advancing the nominations of two district court nominees, including Greenberg Traurig shareholder Michael Liburdi. It’s unclear whether the Republican-led chamber will get through the entire batch of Donald Trump nominees before breaking on Thursday for its August recess, but Majority Leader Mitch McConnell has said he wants to clear a significant number of them. The Senate has set an aggressive pace for fulfilling Trump’s campaign promise to appoint conservative judges, so far clearing 43 appeals court judges, 86 district court judges, and Brett Kavanaugh and Neil Gorsuch to the Supreme Court.

7am – B/C     Virginia delegate shouts ‘you can’t send us back’ at Trump during Jamestown speech. He shouted ‘you can’t send us back, Virginia is our home’ during the president’s speech. JAMESTOWN, Va. (AP) — President Donald Trump marked the 400th anniversary of the rise of American democracy on Tuesday by celebrating “four incredible centuries of history, heritage and commitment to the righteous cause of American self-government.” His speech in historic Jamestown played out against a backdrop of tension over his recent disparaging remarks about minority members of Congress and was boycotted by black Virginia state legislators. In his remarks, Trump noted that 1619 also was the year the first enslaved Africans arrived in the colonies, saying, “We remember every sacred soul who suffered the horrors of slavery and the anguish of bondage.” Trump said that the United States has had many achievements in its history, but “none exceeds the triumph that we are here to celebrate today.” “Self-government in Virginia did not just give us a state we love — in a very true sense it gave us the country we love, the United States of America,” he said. His speech was interrupted by a protester who stood up and held signs that read “deport hate” and “reunite my family.” A third message said “go back to your corrupted home.” The protester, Ibraheem Samirah, a Democratic member of the Virginia House, was led out of the speech site as some members of the crowd chanted “Trump, Trump, Trump.” Samirah said in a statement that he was confident his constituents would rather him protest than “passively accept” Trump’s presence. Republican House Speaker Kirk Cox called the protest “inconsistent with common decency and a violation of the rules of the House.”

  • Washington Free Beacon: The protester who interrupted Trump’s Jamestown speech: A member of the Virginia legislature and former volunteer for Rep. Rashida Tlaib (D., Mich.) is connected to multiple anti-Semitic organizations and is the son of a Hamas fundraiser.

  • Warren, Bullock spar over ‘no first use’ nuclear policy. Sen. Elizabeth Warren (D-Mass.) and Montana Gov. Steve Bullock (D) sparred Tuesday night over her proposed “no first use” policy on nuclear weapons during the Democratic debate. Warren shot back that the world is closer to nuclear warfare after Trump’s presidency, which is seeing the end of a landmark arms control agreement with Russia, the development of a low-yield submarine-launched warhead and the U.S. withdrawal from the Iran nuclear agreement. “We don’t expand trust around the world by saying, ‘you know, we might be the first one to use a nuclear weapon,’” she said. “We have to have an announced policy that is one the entire world can live with.”

8am – E         Ben Carson To Visit Baltimore As Liberals Defend Crime-Ridden City Following Trump’s Criticism.  (Daily Caller) –  Wednesday to Baltimore, Md to spread awareness about the city which President Donald Trump described as a “rodent infested mess,” the Daily Caller has learned. The trip comes after Trump has faced criticism for his comments about the city, which were directed towards Maryland Democratic Rep. Elijah Cummings for not focusing on the city in his district.  Carson also defended the president’s comments on “Tucker Carlson Tonight” on Monday night, saying the president wants to see people stop suffering in Baltimore. “While I was there, I worked on a lot of issues with many politicians, including Elijah Cummings, particularly in terms of childhood education and improving the life for the people,” Carson said on Fox News.  “And I think what President Trump was trying to say is that rather than spending your time talking about, you know, our brave border agents and investigating endlessly things that you can’t find anything on, why not spend some time working more for these people, you know, who are suffering?” Carson spent most of his medical career practicing at Johns Hopkins Hospital in Baltimore, working there for over 30 years.

  • Flashback: On our Monday show, Daily Caller’s Derek Hunter suggested White House should bring in Ben Carson to Baltimore (White House listening?)
