Frederick County begins process of reopening (FOX 5 DC)

For some Frederick county businesses, this weekend was the first time in weeks they could welcome customers inside.

Most other Maryland counties around D.C. are not allowing this yet, but in Frederick County, retail businesses less than 10,000 square feet can reopen at 50 percent capacity if shoppers are wearing face masks. [Read More]

‘Focused on others’: Barr says Durham unlikely to charge Obama or Biden (Washington Examiner)

U.S. Attorney John Durham will likely not conduct a criminal investigation into former President Barack Obama or former Vice President Joe Biden, Attorney General William Barr said on Monday.

“I have a general idea of how Mr. Durham’s investigation is going. … There’s a difference between an abuse of power and a federal crime. Not every abuse of power, no matter how outrageous, is necessarily a federal crime,” Barr said during a press conference on Monday. “Now, as to President Obama and Vice President Biden, whatever their level of involvement, based on the information I have today, I don’t expect Mr. Durham’s work will lead to a criminal investigation of either man. Obama knocks ‘folks in charge’ while discussing COVID-19 in commencement speech (FOX News)

Former President Obama took a shot at government officials in charge of responding to the coronavirus, arguing Saturday that the pandemic showed they were incompetent.

“More than anything, this pandemic has fully, finally torn back the curtain on the idea that so many of the folks in charge know what they’re doing,” Obama said. He added that “a lot of them aren’t even pretending to be in charge.”

Obama spoke on “Show Me Your Walk, HBCU [Historically Black Colleges and Universities] Edition,” a two-hour event for students graduating from historically black colleges and universities that was broadcast on YouTube, Facebook and Twitter. His remarks were unexpectedly political, given the venue, and touched on current events beyond the virus and its social and economic impacts. [Read More]

ICE removes MS-13 gang member wanted in El Salvador (ICE)

U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement’s (ICE) Enforcement and Removal Operations (ERO) removed a Salvadoran national Friday, May 8, convicted in his home country on charges of illegal or irresponsible possession, carrying, or use of a firearm and wanted on charges related to gang participation. Celio Alexander Serrano-Trejo, 34, an MS-13 gang member, was removed from the United States via an ICE Air Operations charter flight and transferred into the custody of Salvadoran law enforcement authorities. Serrano was the subject of an Interpol Red Notice and wanted in his home country for his participation in Mara Salvatrucha (MS-13). [Read More]

FBI Discovers al Qaeda Ties in Pensacola Shooter’s iPhones (WSJ)
