DeVos demands ‘fully operational’ schools in the fall: ‘Not a matter of if’ (The Hill)

Education Secretary Betsy DeVos on Tuesday told the country’s governors in a conference call that she expects schools to be “fully operational” come the fall, regardless of the coronavirus pandemic.

“Ultimately, it’s not a matter of if schools need to open, it’s a matter of how,” DeVos told governors, The Associated Press reports. “School[s] must reopen, they must be fully operational. And how that happens is best left to education and community leaders.” [Read More]

The revolution must be beaten; do the math (Washington Examiner)

A teacher named Brittany Marshall recently tweeted, “The idea of 2 + 2 equaling 4 is cultural and because of western imperialism/colonization, we think of it as the only way of knowing.”

She describes herself, among other things, as a “scholar,” a “social justice change agent,” and as a “wannabe math person” and notes her undying adherence to Black Lives Matter.

Lt. Col. Alexander Vindman, a key witness in the impeachment case against President Donald Trump, announced Wednesday that he’s retiring from the Army, with his lawyer alleging a “campaign of bullying, intimidation, and retaliation” by the president as the reason.

Vindman was set to be promoted to full colonel this year, but multiple government officials had expressed concern that the White House could block the 21-year veteran’s promotion, The Washington Post first reported last month. [Read More]

Facebook takes down Roger Stone-affiliated accounts, pages (The Hill)

Facebook said Wednesday that it removed a network of more than 100 pages and accounts associated with former Trump adviser Roger Stone after determining that they engaged in “coordinated inauthentic behavior” focused on audiences in the U.S.

Nathaniel Gleicher, Facebook’s head of security policy, said in a blog post that the network used fake accounts and pages to deceive the platform’s users on issues related to local politics in Florida, Stone and hacked materials released by WikiLeaks ahead of the 2016 presidential election, among other things.
