Democratic presidential nominee Joe Biden told Florida veterans Tuesday that supporting the military and providing for veterans after their service are sacred obligations for the country must improve.

Biden said doctors at the Department of Veterans Affairs should be paid more competitive salaries and a pipeline of training must be established to staff doctors in rural areas. Ambush shooting in Compton leads to rowdy protests; LA reporter arrested after scuffle (ABC 7)

A small crowd of demonstrators gathered outside a Lynwood hospital Saturday night where two Los Angeles County Sheriff’s deputies are being treated after an ambush shooting in Compton.

Video from outside St. Francis Medical Center shows authorities trying to clear the area. At one point, a few people were seen blocking the emergency exit and entrance to the hospital.

One witness said some of the demonstrators even tried to get inside the building. [Read More]

Income, Poverty and Health Insurance Coverage in the United States: 2019 (Census)

The U.S. Census Bureau announced today that median household income in 2019 increased 6.8% from 2018, and the official poverty rate decreased 1.3 percentage points. Meanwhile the percentage of people with health insurance coverage for all or part of 2019 was 92.0% and 8.0% of people, or 26.1 million, did not have health insurance at any point during 2019, according to the 2020 Current Population Survey Annual Social and Economic Supplement (CPS ASEC). None of the special educators at Anne Arundel County’s three special education centers agreed to return for in-person instruction as the school system prioritizes which student groups to bring back first, Superintendent George Arlotto said on Monday night.

Parents react to in-school internet cafes now open in Loudoun County (ABC 7)

Loudoun County Public Schools is rolling out another new program aimed at helping students who live in parts of the county where reliable internet service is hard to come by.

In a September 12 letter sent to families, LCPS said it’s opening up in-school internet cafes at Woodgrove High School in Purcellville, Kenneth W. Culbert Elementary School in Hamilton, and Round Hill Elementary School in Round Hill. A fourth internet cafe will open soon at Blue Ridge Middle School in Purcellville. [Read More]
