Jim Myles Wins Republican Nomination in Virginia’s 11th Congressional District

By WMAL.com

On Saturday, Republicans from across Virginia’s new 11th Congressional District assembled to elect their nominee to take on incumbent Democratic Congressman Gerry Connolly. In a “firehouse primary” that utilized a rank choice vote, former federal judge and Air Force veteran Jim Myles emerged victorious in a field of five candidates.

Republicans believe that Jim Myles experience and career in public service, coupled with the low favorability ratings of Democrats, gives them a great opportunity to pick up a seat that has historically been deep blue.

“The 11th congressional district provides us a lot of opportunities, particularly in the next few cycles. The issue matrix is moving toward Republicans,” said newly elected 11th Congressional District Republican Chairman Mike Ginsburg. “Voters that haven’t previously voted for Republicans — different minority groups — Hispanic voters, Asian American voters … polls show that they are moving in our direction.”

According to Myles website he describes himself as a conservative who believes in free markets, small government, faith, family, assuming personal responsibility with a shared duty for the care of those in need. He is pro-life, a member of the NRA, and a supporter of the Second Amendment. He also believes that the government cannot favor any religion or non-religion, all have a first amendment right that the government must respect.

While there is a long way to go until the November general election, 11th District Republicans are excited to turn their focus to defeating entrenched career politician Gerry Connolly.
