One of the seven teenagers involved in the early morning SUV crash in Merrifield, Va. last week has died.

The crash occurred when the teen driver lost control going up a hill. When the car crested the hill the driver struck a tree and five of the teenagers were ejected from the vehicle.

“What is clear is that speed and alcohol were absolutely factors of the crash,” Fairfax County Police Public Information Officer Lt. James Curry said during a press conference. “Most of the juveniles, from what we’ve determined so far, were not wearing their seatbelts.”

The teenagers were rushed to the hospital once Fairfax County Police and emergency crews rushed to the scene.

New reports say that 14-year-old Kevin Landaverde died on Thanksgiving Day of his injuries. On the same day, Landaverde’s older brother, Jay, was released from the hospital.

The other four teens, all students at McLean High School, remain hospitalized.

The 17-year-old male driver, who was not licensed, was arrested for driving under the influence. He was the only one that was not hurt in the crash.
