 After an early bureaucratic disaster – the feds banned private sector tests and failed to deliver a test that worked – the U.S. has ramped up testing to astronomical levels, dwarfing the rest of the world and any historical comparison. We average about 1.5 million tests per flu season, and we’ve now run over 57 million tests for SARS-CoV2. But have all those tests delivered what proponents of mass testing promised? Have they contained the spread and restored public confidence that infectious people are at home, not out and about? Absolutely not. In fact, by the time most test results are available, the people who were positive are no longer infectious. The tests serve no actual infection control purpose. Germantown homicide suspect released from Montgomery County jail in April due to COVID-19 (WJLA)

The man accused of stabbing a 63-year-old Germantown father to death in July was freed from jail only months earlier, amid COVID-19 pandemic concerns, court records confirm.

On April 23, Justin Wilson, 26, filed an emergency petition with the court system. Wilson sought a special release, due to what court records described to be an “immediate threat posed by [the] COVID-19 pandemic.” [Read More]

More than 100 Black men urge Biden to pick Black woman as vice president (CNN)

More than 100 Black men on Monday signed an open letter to presumptive Democratic presidential nominee Joe Biden urging him to pick a Black woman as his vice president, writing that “failing to select a Black woman in 2020 means you will lose the election.”

The letter represents a last-minute push by outside groups to pressure Biden to pick a Black woman as his running mate. Biden is expected to formally announce his choice this week, ahead of the Democratic National Convention, after months of speculation and the vetting of several candidates by his team.
