MARYLAND (WMAL) – A two-year-old boy who fell out of a third floor apartment window in Takoma Park Sunday afternoon has died from his injuries.

When first responders got to the building on Ethan Allen Avenue around 1:30 p.m. they found the boy outside the building along with a screen according to Montgomery County Fire Department spokesperson Pete Piringer. He added they believe the screen was from the window the toddler fell from, which was about 30 to  40 feet above ground.

The child was taken to the hospital in critical condition. He died early Monday morning according to Takoma Park Police spokesperson Catherine Levy.

“It is extremely sad. I mean, it is a 2-year-old child,” Levy said.

Police are investigating to figure out what happened.
