Maryland Senate Republicans Elect Leadership

ANNAPOLIS, Md. (AP) — Maryland Senate Republicans elected a new minority leader on Monday.

Sen. Steve Hershey, who represents Maryland’s Upper Eastern Shore, was chosen by the Senate Republican Caucus to be minority leader.

Hershey served as Senate minority whip from 2015 to 2020. He has represented District 36 since 2013.

Sen. Justin Ready was re-elected minority whip. Ready has been the minority whip since October 2021. He has represented District 5 in Carroll County since 2015.

The GOP lost two seats in the Maryland Senate this election. Democrats will hold a 34-13 advantage in the chamber in January.
