Holiday Fire Safety | DMV Spotlight with Barbara Britt

DMV Spotlight on 12-18-22 shines a light on Holiday Fire Risk. Acting Fire Chief James Forgo with Prince William County Fire and Rescue notes that kitchen fires are still the biggest threat of fire especially by leaving food unattended during the busy holiday season.

Chief Forgo also warns that lit candles and live Christmas trees can pose a danger. Deep frying a turkey, says the Chief, needs to be done outside, not on a deck and away from hazards. He note that even if a turkey is thawed, there is still liquid inside that can bubble over when placed in the hot fat. Finally, Chief Forgo strongly urges that everyone have working smoke detectors in the home along with CO2 detectors.
