WASHINGTON (WMAL) – With a crowded field of contenders running in the Democratic primary for Montgomery County Executive, four term Montgomery County Council member George Leventhal is hoping an unconventional ad will help him stand out.

From the voiceover to the special effects graphics, Leventhal’s ad more closely resembles a movie trailer than a routine political ad. When the creator of many ads run by Bernie Sanders proposed the idea, Leventhal said he couldn’t resist.

“I did high school drama when I was a kid, and you know I’m a bit of a ham, so you know flying like superman and having lasers come out of my eyes just appealed to me and my sons, so we agreed to do it,” said Leventhal.

Leventhal who often comes off as very serious said it’s important to maintain a sense of humor even when dealing with serious issues.

Leventhal will face off against council members Roger Berliner and Mark Elrich, Potomac businessman David Blair, Del. Bill Frick and former Rockville mayor Rose Krasnow in the Democratic primary June 26. Robin Ficker is the only Republican running for the county’s top office.
