Police: Train Hits, Kills 2 Women Walking In Maryland

GERMANTOWN, Md. – Police in Maryland say a freight train has struck and killed two women who had been walking near railroad tracks.

Montgomery County police tell news outlets in a statement that the CSX train hit the women Wednesday night in Germantown. Police say they died from their injuries at the scene.

Police say they are investigating why the women had been in the tracks’ area. They say investigators determined the train operator had seen the women, and sounded the train’s horn and applied its brakes.

Police will provide the names of the women when their families have been notified.

CSX tells local news media in a statement that its personnel are cooperating with the police investigation.
