Woke College Students Fear Elon Musk’s Twitter Takeover

By WMAL.com

Despite favorable ratings as an individual, Elon Musk’s recent acquisition of Twitter is opposed by six in 10 college students, according to a new poll conducted by Generation Lab/ Axios. The liberal college students who have, for years, preached for the freedom to exercise their first amendment rights now oppose the very man on a conquest to liberate the nation’s most popular social media site and eliminate censorship from the platform.

The poll found that Musk was by far-and-away the most well-liked billionaire of those included in the survey – Bezos, Zuckerburg, Gates and Buffett. And while twice as many students surveyed believe that Twitter is more trustworthy than Facebook or TikTok they are concerned with what Musk could do to the platform. The survey made clear that the woke college students do not share the views of Elon Musk that the current climate on social media censors the views of those who disagree with liberal views held by big tech leaders.

Opinions of Musk’s acquisition of Twitter are split down party lines, with 69% of Republicans and 65% of men want Musk to do so, compared to 22% of Democrats and 29% of women. Another notable takaway from the survey found that 12% on those surveyed said Twitter has made their life worse, compared to 16% for Facebook, 16% for Instagram and 18% for TikTok.
