WASHINGTON (WMAL) — The Secret Service will begin installing metal spikes on the White House fence to improve security on Wednesday. These spikes would prevent trespassers from climbing over the fence.

The Secret Service and National Park Service said these spikes are a temporary solution until a long-term solution for the White House fence is in place.

Installation work will continue for about six weeks.

The Secret Service and National Park Service plan to design a permanent solution in the fall and submit it to U.S. Commission of Fine Arts and National Capital Planning Commission.
