Law enforcement agencies in Washington, DC have reached out to the Pentagon requesting assistance of the arrival of planned trucker convoy protest headed for the nation’s capital. The protests comes in response to vaccine mandates is scheduled to coincide with President Biden’s first State of the Union Address this coming Tuesday.

In a joint effort the U.S. Capitol Police and D.C. Homeland Seucrity and Emergency Management Agency have requested the National Guard’s assistance with “[providing] support at traffic control points in and around the District to help … address potential challenges stemming from possible disruptions at key traffic arteries.” This coming from a statement delivered by Pentagon Press Secretary John Kirby. The Military Times has reported that the National Guard would provide personnel and vehicles at “43 critical block positions 24/7”.

If DC law enforcement’s request is met this would serve as the first time the new law making it easier for U.S. Capitol Police to request emergency assistance from the National Guard would be exercised.
